Warren - Charles Howard Simpkins, 94, died Monday, January 6, 2014 at Trumbull Memorial Hospital. He was born on December 10, 1919 in Kinsman, the son of the late LeRoy and Florence Baker Simpkins.
Charles was retired from the Warren City Water Department as a chemist. In his retirement he enjoyed working at Warren Armature and mowing several local golf courses.
He was a longtime member of the First Presbyterian Church where he served on numerous committees and held many official positions including Video-Sound-Radio Technician Emeritus. He was a graduate from Warren G. Harding High School class of 1938, and member of Mahoning Valley Grange #1272. He was a ham radio operator and instructor and held the registered Amateur Radio License call sign: KA8FUP.
Memories of Charles will be carried on by his son, Jeffrey C. Simpkins and granddaughter Anna Marie Simpkins both of Cope, SC, along with several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Wanda Sinn Simpkins on June 14, 2010, whom he married August 10, 1944.
A memorial service will be held 11:30 a.m. Friday, January 10, 2014 at the First Presbyterian Church, Warren, where family will receive friends one hour prior to the services in the church parlor. Officiating will be the Rev. Rusty Cowden. Final inurnment will be the columbarium at the First Presbyterian Church.
In lieu of flowers, material contributions may be made to the Radio Ministry, First Presbyterian Church, 256 Mahoning Ave. NW, Warren, OH 44483.
