Charles W. Matyas, 86, of Cortland, Ohio died on January 11, 2005 at Trumbull Memorial Hospital, Warren, Ohio.
The son of Michael and Maria (Hrinko) Matyas, Charles was born on January 19, 1918 in Elkhorn, West Virginia, one of six brothers and four sisters.
Charles graduated with the first class at Bazetta High School, was married in 1938, served in the Merchant Marines and was a steel salesman with Allied Metals in Niles, Ohio until his retirement.
Charles was very athletic, winning many awards in baseball, bowling and golfing.
Charles leaves behind his wife of almost 67 years, Loena (Loyer) Matyas of Cortland, Ohio; A daughter Patricia King (Cal), Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio; two Granddaughters, Evelyn Metcalf (Kevin), Chardon, Ohio and Rachel Eldred (Rod), Conneaut, Ohio. 3 Great Granddaughters, Alexis Rhodes, Sidney and Reeve Metcalf and on Great Grandson, Zachary Rhodes;... and his brothers and sisters, George Matyas, Banning, California, Mary Rufo, St. Petersburg, Florida, Martin Matyas, Anchorage, Alaska, John Matyas, Niles, Ohio and Dorothy Ruberto of Niles, Ohio.
Charles' deceased brothers and sisters are Peter Matyas, Paul Matyas, Andrew Matyas, Julia Sebastian and Ann Polivka.
Cremation has taken place. A Memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, January 19, 2005 at McFarland & Son Funeral Home where family will receive guests from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM.
