Charles B. Crouse, III, 54, of Warren, died Wednesday, April 20, 2005 at Select Specialty Care Center in St. Elizabeth Health Center in Youngstown. He was born Thursday, April 27, 1950, in Nogales, Arizona, the son of Charles B. Crouse, Jr. and Margaret Sue (Hoppe) Crouse.
Charlie graduated from Thomas More School in Keene, NH, Youngstown State University, and Mount St. Mary's Seminary in Cincinnati. In the 1970's, he studied at the School of International Living in Putney, Vt. and studied and worked in France. He served as a diocesan priest in the Archdiocese of Anchorage, Alaska. Later, he entered the monastery of St. Meinrad Archabbey (Indiana) and taught at St. Meinrad College where he was known as Fr. Thomas. Charlie was employed by The American Red Cross in Warren.
Charlie had been a facilitator for grief support groups, and served with the worship and choir commissions at Blessed Sacrament Church. He was a member of the Rotary Club of Warren. He enjoyed kitchen and grilling activities, gardening and nature, sports, travel, family, and friends. Of particular pride was his work on a family genealogy dating back to the 1600's, and his work in progress of a cookbook of family recipes.
Charlie is survived by his parents of Warren; three sisters: Kelley Spear of Hudson, OH, Gail Hawkins of Colorado Springs, CO, and Anita Stocz of Cortland, OH; five brothers: Alfred P. Crouse of Cortland, OH, Daniel H. Crouse of Warren, OH, Ralph W. Crouse of El Paso, TX, Robert R. "Pete" Crouse of Cortland, OH, and Henry H. Crouse of Warren, OH; and many nieces and nephews.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:00 AM Monday, April 25, 2005 at Blessed Sacrament Church, 3020 Reeves Rd. N.E., Warren, Ohio 44483, with Fr. Donald E. King officiating. Interment will follow at All Souls Cemetery. Friends may call at the church 5:00 to 8:00 PM Sunday and 9:00 to 10:00 AM Monday. Charlie has requested material contributions be sent in his name to the Archdiocese of Anchorage, or the Mission in Magadan, Russian Far East, both at 225 Cordova St., Anchorage, AK 99501 or St. Meinrad's Archabbey or the St. Jude's Guest House Building Fund at St. Meinrad's Archabbey, both at 200 Hill Dr., St. Meinrad, IN 47577
