Charles L. Carris

Charles L. Carris, 99, formerly of Warren, died 11:25 PM Saturday, October 8, 2005 at Autumn Hills Care Center in Niles. He was born May 30, 1906 in Mc Keesport, Pa., the son of Nicholas and Mary Tabacos Carris, and lived in the Warren area most of his life.

Charlie worked for 40 years as a cold strip mill roller at Republic Steel, and was very active in the Steelworkers Union. He was an active member of St. Pius X Catholic Church, and had bowled with the Senior Citizens and Republic Steel leagues for many years. He enjoyed travel, sports, dancing, and bingo.

Charlie is survived by his sister, Helen Canterucci of Niles; three nieces: Charlene May of Huron, Ohio, Dianne Setterberg of Burghill, and Deborah Szabo of Niles; and five nephews: Robert Carris of Margate, Fla., Joseph Carris of Atlanta, Ga., Timothy Carris of Fort Mitchell, Ky., Thomas Carris and John Lightner, both of Niles.

Preceding him in death are his parents; his wife, Ellen C. Thomson Carris, whom he married June 17, 1939 and who died May, 1992; brothers Mickey, Joseph, Andrew, and Frank Carris; and sisters Margaret Petruska, Ann Carris, and Elizabeth Lightner.

Services for Charlie will be 11:00 AM Tuesday, October 11, 2005 at McFarland & Son Funeral Home. Interment at All Souls Cemetery will follow. Friends may call at the funeral home from 10:00 to 11:00 AM Tuesday. Material contributions may be made to the donor's favorite charity.

The family would like to thank the staff at Autumn Hills Care Center, and caregivers/friends Carolyn Brown and Kay Paajanen for the help they gave to our beloved Charlie.
