Howland Twp., OH Charles Richard "Dick" Bayman, 93, longtime resident of Warren, former resident of England, Wales, and Paris, France died at 7:29 a.m. Tuesday, June 13, 2017 under Hospice care at Shepherd of the Valley Nursing Home in Howland.
Mr. Bayman was born June 1, 1924 in New Haven, Indiana. He was predeceased by his first wife of 59 years, Mary Davis Bayman and is survived by his second wife of 11 years, Lucille Guarnieri McGuire Bayman. He is also survived by three sons, Scott (Lynn) Bayman of Vero Beach, Florida, Jeffrey (Trudy) Bayman of Warren and Andrew Bayman of Atlanta, Georgia; four grandchildren: Richard (Sarah) Bayman, Brandy (Brett) Stice, Zachary Bayman and Thomas Bayman; and five great grandchildren: Fulton Bayman, Grant Stice, Prescott Bayman, Drew Stice and Elizabeth Stice.
He is also survived by five stepchildren: Dr. Daniel (Christiane) McGuire, Dr. Jack (Pam) McGuire, Marilyn (Robert) Bowden, William (Charlene) McGuire and Janet (Dr. Thomas) Groner, thirteen step-grandchildren: Shannon Berg, Megan McGuire, Michelle McGuire, Matthew McGuire, John McGuire, Jessica Crump, T.J. Groner, Laura Groner, Mark Groner, Katherine Groner, Ryan McGuire, Trisha McGuire and Chris McGuire; and seven step-great grandchildren: Logan Berg, Carter Berg, Elizabeth McGuire, Catherine McGuire, Aiden McGuire, Charlie Crump and Ian Crump.
His two sisters, Bonnie Mordecai and Patrecia Minges predeceased him.
Mr. Bayman graduated from Duke University with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering in 1944. While at Duke, he participated in the Navy V-12 program and was commissioned as an Ensign in the Civil Engineering Corps in 1945. After attending Officer Training School, he joined the 135th Naval Construction Battalion and was a "Fighting Seabee" at the Battle of Okinawa in World War II.
Mr. Bayman spent most of his professional career in the steel industry, starting in 1951 as Chief Plant Engineer at the Brainard Steel Division of Sharon Steel Corp. Mr. Bayman joined Herr Equipment Corp. as Sales Engineer in 1957, later becoming Vice President of International Sales in 1961. He made his first trip to Japan in 1963 and made hundreds of other international trips during the course of his career. In 1970, Mr. Bayman joined Wean United as International Sales Manager and was promoted in 1972 to Managing Director of Wean Limited in Croydon, England. Mr. Bayman oversaw the relocation of Wean Limited to Pontypool, Wales in 1973 and in 1974 was promoted to President Director General of Wean Damiron in Paris, France. Mr. Bayman returned to Wean United in Warren in 1976 as Vice President of International Sales and retired from Wean on January 31, 1993. Following his retirement, he served as a consultant for Daneli Wean until 1999.
Mr. Bayman was a member of Central Christian Church, The Buckeye Club and Trumbull Country Club. He was a member of the Board of Directors of The Salvation Army in Warren. He also coached his older two sons in Little League Baseball.
Visitation will be at Central Christian Church from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 20, 2017 with services to be held at 11:30 a.m. The Reverend Marc Runyon will officiate with inurnment in the Central Christian Chancel Columbarium.
