HUDSON - Carol S. Hanson, 89, died Sunday, Dec. 21, 2008, at home with her family at the Laurel Lake Retirement Community in Hudson.
She was born Dec. 26, 1918, in Cleveland.
After she and her husband, Clarence, lived in the Chicago, Detroit, Baltimore, Youngstown and Trenton areas, they settled in the Warren area for more than 40 years.
Carol's love of art and music led her to become an active volunteer for Warren Civic Music, Warren Chamber Orchestra, Trumbull County Blossom Music Committee, Trumbull Arts Guild and Butler Museum of American Art. She also generously gave her time to the YWCA Town Hall, Planned Parenthood and the Hillside Hospital Auxiliary.
During the summer months, Carol enjoyed the musical, educational, and spiritual programs in Chautauqua, N.Y. The rest of the year she loved her book club, her tennis and bridge groups in Warren.
Carol will long be remembered for her devotion to her family and friends. Her enthusiasm and can-do attitude inspired her family while her daily acts of kindness demonstrated her unselfish love to all around her.
Survivors include her loving husband of 66 years, Clarence C. Hanson; daughter, Joan Selden and her husband, Joseph, of Hudson; grandson, Brian G. Selden and his wife, Nicole, of Los Altos, Calif.; granddaughter, Beth S. Matyja and her husband, Gregory, of Macedonia; and three great-grandchildren, Catie Selden, John Selden and Sarah Matyja.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Serenity Chapel at the Laurel Lakes Retirement Community in Hudson.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made in lieu of flowers to a church or charity of your choice.
