Carl L. Haefling, of Bonnie Brae, Warren, OH, age 85 years, died on June 8, 2003, at the home of his son, Todd, following a lengthy illness. He wsa born October 29, 1917 in Warren and would reside there all his life. He was the son of Carl C. and Birdie Parks Haefling. He had retired from the Haefling Insurance Agency which he owned and operated for over 30 years with his wife.
After graduating from Warren G. Harding in 1937, he was employed a short time by the Warren Tribune as an advertisement salesman, after which he worked at Packard Electric. He then worked as a Recorder at Copperweld Steel prior to enlisting in the United States Army, serving in World War II. He was a member of the Elmer Dade American Legion Post #699 for over fifty years.
He was married for 57 years to Trissa Davis, who survives him. He is also survived by his son Carl Jr. and his wife, Pamela, of Bainbridge Island, Washington, and son Todd, wife Karen and grandchildre, Geoffrey and Chelsea of Chagrin Falls. He was a life member of Central Christian Church of Warren, where he had served as a Deacon. He was a member of Kiwanis Club and had delievered Mobile Meals.
He was an avid sports enthusiast, playing tennis well into his fiftiesand managed Little League and Pony League baseball teams. He became involved in historical preservation and had researched his ancestry, being descended from the earliest settlers of Trumbull County. He was a member of Pioneers of Trumbull County, First Families of Ohio, Ohio, Trumbull County and New England Historical & Genealogy Societies and the German Palatines of Pennsylvania and Ohio. His hobbies incloved antique cars, steam trains and animal protection.
Friends may call and pay their respects at McFarland & Son Funeral Home on Wednesday, June 11, 2003 from 7:00 to 9:00 PM with the funeral service being held at 10:00 AM on Thursday, June 12, 2003 at McFarland & Son Funeral Home. The Reverand Dave Norling of the Federated Church of Chagrin Falls will officiate.
