Betty R. McElravy, 90, formerly of Warren, died Sunday, June 19, 2011 at Shepherd of the Valley in Niles. She was born April 29, 1921 in Ludlow, Pa., the daughter of Irvin and Amy (Bloss) Youngberg.
Mrs. McElravy was a graduate of Gowanda (N.Y.) High School, Buffalo State Teachers College, and Kent State University. She taught home economics for more than thirty years at Friendship (N.Y.) High School, and then at Turner and West Junior High Schools in Warren. A life member of the Ohio Education Association and the National Education Association, she was past-president of the Warren Education Association. She enjoyed slot machines, and was an avid baseball fan.
Following her retirement in 1978, Betty and Ray moved to Brooksville, Fla., where they lived until returning to Trumbull County in 2005.
Surviving are two children: Jeff (Phyllis) McElravy of Cincinnati and Kay (Paul) Rader of Warren; four grandchildren: Jeff Jr. (Susie) and Beth McElravy, and Christopher and Amber Rader; and three great-grandchildren: Anthony and Summer Pumphrey and Kaleigh Kascsak. Preceding her in death is her beloved husband, Ray D. McElravy, whom she married October 30, 1943 and who died November 4, 2010; a sister, Jean Hewitt; and three brothers: Robert, Gerald, and Larry Youngberg.
Services are 1:00 p.m. Thursday, June 23, 2011 at McFarland & Son Funeral Home. Her urn will be laid to rest at a later date at Pine Hill Cemetery, Gowanda, N.Y. Friends may call 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday and 12:00 to 1:00 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
