Belva Hall Burlingame, a long time resident of Cortland,Ohio, died Sunday November 26, 2006 at Shepherd of the Valley - Howland, with her family at her side.
Belva was born January 9,1912 in Cortland the daughter of Warren Curtis and Lucy Decker Hall. On September 1,1934 she married William B. Burlingame, who preceded her in death on January 15, 1990.
Mrs. Burlingame had a lifetime interest in genealogy and the preservation of historical records. She was a descendant of settlers who came to the Massachusetts Bay Colony in 1630 and to the Western Reserve in Vienna Township in 1799 and Fowler Township in 1805 and 1815. She graduated in 1929 from Cortland High School and attended the Ohio Business Institute.
She became a member of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution, Mary Chesney Chapter, Warren in 1952 and served as its Regent. She was active on the state and national levels as an officer. Membership in other hereditary societies included Daughters of Colonial Wars, The Huguenot Society of Ohio, United States Daughters of 1812, Colonial Daughters of the Seventeenth Century, Daughters of Founders and Patriots of America, Ohio Society Dames of the Court of Honor, First Families of Ohio, and she was a charter member of Pioneer Families of Trumbull County. Mrs. Burlingame was a life member of The Order of the Crown of Charlemagne in the United States of America, National Society Magna Charts Dames, Old Plymouth Colony Descendants, The Order of Americans of Armorial Ancestry, and the Ohio Society Daughters of the American Revolution Hobby Club. She was a charter member of the Trumbull County Genealogical Society and the Ohio Genealogical Society. Mrs. Burlingame was a Past Matron of Opal Chapter Order of the Eastern Star, served as president of the Cortland Women's Literary Club, and was a member of the Cortland Christian Church.
Belva is survived by her Brother in Law Arlow Wilson, Niece and caregiver Holly D. Wilson and numerous other nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Burlingame was preceded in death by her brothers, Adolph C. Hall, Parmley E. Hall, C. Curtis Hall; sisters, Mrs. Fred (Alice) Patrick, Mrs. Farrell (Edythe) Patrick, Mrs. Robert Reichard (Betty), Mrs. Dell (Kathryn) Sells, Mrs. Arlow (Helen) Wilson, Elizabeth Hall.
The family would like to thank Dr. Fred Perry, Dr. William Eddy, Hospice of the Valley and the many wonderful people who cared for Belva over the past few years at Shepherd of the Valley Howland.
A Memorial Service will be held for Belva on Thursday November 30 at 11:00 A. M. at the Cortland Christian Church. Friends wishing to remember Belva with a material contribution may do so through the Cortland Library Book Fund, Shepherd of the Valley Howland, Hospice of the Valley, or Cortland Christian Church.
