Ausmer "Aussie" B. Tuttle

Champion - Ausmer B ."Aussie" Tuttle, 81, passed away suddenly following a short illness on June 26, 2011. Aussie, born on June 2, 1930 to Ausmer B. and Goldie (Fosburg) Tuttle, Sr. He was a lifelong resident of Warren, Ohio.

He graduated from Warren G. Harding High School in 1948, a legacy of significance to him, and was later active on the Reunion Committee. Following graduation, he was employed by the Warren Tribune Chronicle in the circulation department before embarking on a successful career as an insurance agent. Aussie later retired as owner of Wollam Insurance Agency in Cortland.

Aussie married his loving wife, DarLena (McDermott) Tuttle, on June 6, 1953; they recently celebrated 58 devoted years of marriage. Aussie and DarLena raised four children together; Gary (j'Nice) Tuttle of Fowler; William Tuttle of Howland; James (Therese) Tuttle of Bristolville; and Nancy (Gary) Hart of Howland.

He is also survived by two sisters; Genevieve Hardman of Georgia and Marjorie Pelton of Pennsylvania; five grandchildren; Deanna (Brian) Tuttle-Howard, Sarah (Michael) Meadors, Aaron Tuttle, Emily Tuttle, and Zoey Alderman-Tuttle; four great-grandchildren; Miranda, Abigail, Sofia, and Lilah Meadors; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a infant son, and two brothers, James Tuttle and Charles Tuttle. Aussie was dedicated to his family and spent much free time researching his ancestry and genealogy.

Those who knew Aussie are also familiar with his love of music. He was a member and past officer of the Warren Chapter Stephen Foster Chorus of Barber shoppers for 28 years, crooned with the Vocal Alliance Quartet, and sang with the church choirs at both Champion Presbyterian and North-Mar for many years. He was also known to serenade family and friends from time to time.

Aussie was a member of the Champion Presbyterian Church, serving as both a Deacon and an Elder; he taught Sunday school and participated in the Evangelism Explosion Program. He was a member of The Old Erie Lodge #3 F&AM for over 50 years. Throughout his years, he was also an Assistant Boy Scout Leader and belonged to bowling leagues and other organizations. Aussie loved meeting new people; his humor and loyalty will be greatly missing by his family, friends, and community.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:30 p.m., Tuesday, June 28, 2011, at the McFarland & Son Funeral Home, and from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. Wednesday at the Champion Presbyterian Church, where services will be held at 11:00 a.m., with Rev. Marvin Barney officiating. Old Erie Lodge will conduct services at 5:45 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Aussie will be laid to rest at Champion Township Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, Aussie's family requests that material contributions be made to the Champion Presbyterian Church, 4997 Mahoning Ave NW, Warren, Ohio 44483, or the Animal Welfare League 545 Brunstetter Rd. SW, Warren, Ohio 44481.
