CHAMPION - Albert J. "Wink" Winkleman, Jr. 55, of Champion, died Monday, October 24, 2005 after a sudden illness. He was born February 10, 1950 in Warren, the son of Albert J. and Joan A. Winkleman.
He was a 1968 graduate of Champion High School where, before his spinal cord injury, he had been a varsity football player. He also played lead guitar for various bands, the last of which was "Saturday's Children."
He was an avid trapper and hunter, and his hobbies were collecting knives and guns. He enjoyed listening to music and watching various sports shows, especially Nascar races, where he always rooted for the Dodge teams, and the Pittsburgh Steelers.
He will be sadly missed by his sister, Audrey A. Winkleman of Champion; four nieces: Joy White of Warren, Anya R., Sarah A., and Jessie A. Cottage of Champion; a nephew, Joel P. Cottage, Jr. of Kent; a great-niece, Amber White of Berea; two great-nephews, Mark and Mathew White of Warren; and his two friends and roommates, Roy "Kenny" Bacorn and Richard "Ru" Ruman.
Preceding him in death are his parents; his brother, Philip M. Winkleman, and his sister-in-law, Joy "Bernice" Mounts Winkleman.
Services will be 10:00 AM Friday, October 28, 2005 at St. William Catholic Church, 5411 Mahoning Ave. N.W., Warren, Ohio 44483, with Fr. Michael J. Smar officiating. Interment at Champion Township Cemetery will follow. Friends may call from 6:00 to 8:00 PM Thursday at McFarland & Son Funeral Home. A prayer service will be held at the funeral home at 9:30 AM Friday, before the procession to the church.
